Do you know the smell of a challenge?
Richard Clavet knows it well. Adventure. Making a voyage from Quebec City to Mexico on a pedal bicycle, or to find work in Florida where he does not speak English, is the kind of adventures that he likes.
The adventure of this businessman starts when he was only 25 years old. Thanks to an initial investment from his adoptive father,he becomes the owner of the Gem Motel and quickly turns it into Richard's Motel in Hollywood, Florida in 1990 .The motel had been left abandoned for several years but Richard saw its potential. It took about two years for Richard to bring the first motel into good standards.
In the beginning it was really difficult. The motel did not have a telephone system, no cable TV and no registration system for recording customers. Today the motel fulfills the very strict requirements of the Automobile club AAA and the Superior Small Lodging. It is one of the best in Hollywood.

With a renovated establishment and very competitive prices, Richard Clavet builds his customers list. During the winter tourist season, up to 95% of our guest are French-speaking customers. Since the Richard's Motel has opened, the French-speaking customers did not cease to increase year after year. The remainder of the year, we count on strong base of North-American customers. We also have people from South America and Europe who come to stay with us. Our customers are been greeted in French, English and Spanish.

Richard continues to remodel his properties. He wants to be certain that his customers enjoy a comfortable and pleasant stay in good quality motels.
Richard Clavet seized the opportunities that rose in front of him. That is how he started to invest in real estate a few years after the purchase of the first Richard's Motel. When one of his friends informs him of a house in foreclosure, located in Hallandale Beach, in great need of restoration, Richard benefited from the occasion and acquired the property. Thereafter, he bought a condo which is in the adjacent building from the main motel and today owns all the condos of that building giving birth in 2005 to the Richard's Motel Studios.
In 19 years, Richard has acquired other properties, the houses became part of Richard's Apartments, the Richard's Motel Extended Stay (formerly Florida Blue Motel) joined the family of the Richard's Motel in 2001. The Richard's Motel Courtyard in 2006 (formerly Adriana Motel). And lately in April 2007 the new adventure of the Richard's Condotel in Pohenegamook, in Quebec.
Richard works,very hard but leaves time for his family,his wife and their five daughters.

When Richard speaks about his family, he says "I am a satisfied man". Moreover, when he looks at the past, he is so grateful towards his step-father to have trusted him with the first motel, which at the time, represented a risky business.
His friend, the chiropractic Doctor Hughes Valcourt describes him like a visionary and believes that Richard is not ready to stop there. When we ask Richard which are his projects for the future, he simply answers: "This year, I want to consolidate my positions, and continue to take good care of my customers at all the Richard's Motels and to take some time for my small 7 member family. With the same breath he adds "Mr. Hilton did not stop with a hundred hotel units".
